AMPN/REF A IS SECNAVINST 5340.7, ACTIVE DUTY FUND DRIVE IN SUPPORT OF THE NAVY-MARINE CORPS RELIEF SOCIETY (NMCRS)//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  SINCE 1904, THE NAVY-MARINE CORPS RELIEF SOCIETY (NMCRS) HAS ASSISTED OUR MARINES, SAILORS AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH UNEXPECTED FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS AND EDUCATIONAL EXPENSES.  WHETHER HELPING PAY FOR URGENT HOME OR VEHICLE REPAIRS, FUNDING TRAVEL TO VISIT AN ILL OR INJURED FAMILY MEMBER OR BY PROVIDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR EDUCATION, THE NMCRS HAS CONSISTENTLY GIVEN PEACE OF MIND TO OUR MARINES WHILE CONTRIBUTING TO UNIT READINESS.
2.  JUST LAST YEAR, THE NMCRS' 3,600 VOLUNTEERS AND SMALL CADRE OF EMPLOYEES COORDINATED $64 MILLION IN ASSISTANCE AND SERVICES, INCLUDING $43 MILLION IN INTEREST-FREE LOANS AND GRANTS TO MORE THAN 61,000 MARINES, SAILORS AND THEIR FAMILIES.  SUPPORTING OUR MARINE FAMILY WITH 24/7 ON-CALL SERVICES TO ANY LOCATION AROUND THE WORLD, THE NMCRS IS A LIFELINE WHEN AN UNFORESEEN CRISIS EXCEEDS OUR MARINE'S FINANCIAL ABILITY TO COPE.  BECAUSE THE NMCRS IS A PRIVATE, NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, THEY RELY ON DONATIONS AND CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO MAKE POSSIBLE THEIR SERVICES.
3.  OUR OPPORTUNITY TO ASSIST IS NOW!  DURING THE MONTHS OF MARCH AND APRIL I ASK ALL WHO WEAR THE EAGLE, GLOBE AND ANCHOR TO COMMIT TO THE 2013 ACTIVE DUTY FUND DRIVE IN SUPPORT OF THE NMCRS.  COMMANDERS SHOULD CAREFULLY ASSIGN MOTIVATED FUND DRIVE KEYPERSONS AND COMMAND REPRESENTATIVES, AND ENSURE THESE INDIVIDUALS ARE FAMILIAR WITH REFERENCE (A).  I AM ALSO COUNTING ON LEADERS TO PASS THE WORD ABOUT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE NMCRS SO THAT MARINES AND SAILORS CAN BENEFIT IF THEY ARE IN NEED.  LASTLY, ALL MARINES WILL BE PROVIDED THE OPPORTUNITY TO VOLUNTARILY DONATE.
4.  THE NMCRS HAS KEPT FAITH WITH MARINES AND SAILORS - THIS MARCH AND APRIL IT'S OUR TURN TO GIVE BACK.
5.  SEMPER FIDELIS, JAMES F. AMOS, GENERAL, U.S. MARINE CORPS, COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS.//
