GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Per the reference, the Blended Retirement System (BRS) election period ends on 31 December 2018. Opt-in eligible Marines shall register their retirement choice to either remain with the Legacy Retirement System or enroll in the BRS via Marine Online (MOL).
2. As of 17 Oct 2018, about 87,000 eligible Marines have yet to register their election in MOL.  Commanders should remind their opt-in eligible Marines who have not made a retirement choice of the 31 December 2018 deadline.  Command Profile provides a listing of Marines yet to register their choice. The Commanders BRS Smart Pack provides instruction on the use of Command Profile (available at https(slash)(slash)www.manpower.usmc.mil/BRS). Of particular concern is the number of enlisted Marines still remaining to decide.
3.  As a reminder, BRS Enrollment is irrevocable and cannot be changed once registered in MOL.  Installation Personal Financial Managers, Command Financial Specialists, and contracted Personal Financial Counselors offer free financial counseling services and resources to help Marines  prepare for their choice.
4.  Many Marines who have elected the BRS are contributing nothing to their TSP account.  Marines under the BRS only receive full benefit of government matching funds by contributing at least 5 percent of their base pay to TSP.  Commanders should advise their Marines to check their TSP contribution percentages by logging in to their DFAS MyPay account.
5.  Email questions to BRS@usmc.mil.
6.  Released authorized by Brigadier General William H. Swan, Director, Manpower Plans and Policy Division//
