GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  ON BEHALF OF ALL MARINES, I EXTEND HEARTFELT CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE WORLD'S FINEST NAVY AS YOU CELEBRATE YOUR 236TH ANNIVERSARY.
2.  ESTABLISHED ON 13 OCTOBER 1775 TO DEFEND THE CITIZENRY OF OUR NEWLY FORMED NATION, THE NAVY HAS CONTINUED TO SAFEGUARD OUR SHORES, PROTECT OUR NATION'S VITAL INTERESTS AND PRESERVE FREEDOM.  THROUGH PROFESSIONALISM, DEDICATION AND SELFLESSNESS, SAILORS, PAST AND PRESENT, HAVE DISTINGUISHED THEMSELVES AS A GLOBAL FORCE FOR GOOD.
3.  WHETHER CONDUCTING HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE, PROVIDING MARITIME SECURITY OR SERVING AS A DETERRENT FORCE, AMERICA'S NAVY CONSISTENTLY DEMONSTRATES UNDAUNTED COURAGE AND UNREMITTING RESOLVE TO ACCOMPLISH ITS MISSION.  THE MARINE CORPS TAKES PRIDE IN STANDING SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH THE NAVY IN FACING MARITIME THREATS AND CHALLENGES.  THE NAVY-MARINE CORPS TEAM REMAINS STRONG.  AS WE CELEBRATE TOGETHER YOUR HISTORIC ANNIVERSARY, LET US ALSO HONOR THOSE WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE AND THE SACRIFICES THEY HAVE MADE.
