AMPN/REF A IS SECNAVINST 5340.7, ACTIVE DUTY FUND DRIVE IN SUPPORT OF THE NAVY-MARINE CORPS RELIEF SOCIETY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Established in 1904, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) is the official military aid society for the Department of the Navy.  Last year, the society provided more than (Dollar Sign)46 million in financial assistance to Marines, Sailors, and their families.  The society does not receive government funding, and depends upon the generous support of active duty and retired Marines and Sailors to carry out its mission of helping those in need at home and around the globe.  The annual active duty fund drive is our opportunity to raise funds for the direct benefit of our fellow Marines and Sailors.
2.  When circumstances seem overwhelming, our Marines and Sailors need to know there are resources and counsel that are available to them.  The society is one of those resources, providing a lifeline to Marines and Sailors facing personal and family emergencies which exceed their own financial ability to cope.  Our collective contributions provide interest-free loans and grants for those who need to travel to the bedside of a loved one, make repairs to homes damaged by natural disasters, or be visited in their home by a registered nurse.  Society volunteers also provide budget counseling services and financial education to help Marines and Sailors evaluate their personal finances, and make informed decisions at major life events – significant purchases, marriage, arrival of a new family member, or planning for retirement.
3.  The campaign(Apostrophe)s theme “BY OUR OWN – FOR OUR OWN,” embodies our Corps(Apostrophe)tradition of taking care of each other.  Many of us have seen firsthand the positive impact the society has had on the unit readiness of our Corps.  We ask all who wear the eagle, globe, and anchor to commit to supporting the 2017 active duty fund drive.  I need leaders to assign motivated command representatives to ensure every Marine is provided the opportunity to become well-informed about programs and services offered by NMCRS, and afforded the opportunity to voluntarily donate to this worthy cause.  Through our financial support, we can keep faith with an organization that has kept faith with our Marines and Sailors for more than 113 years.
