GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS HAS A RICH HISTORY AND CULTURE OF SERVICE.  AS A NATION, WE CELEBRATE NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK 21-27 APRIL 2013.  IN RECOGNITION OF THIS CELEBRATION, WE THANK OUR MARINES, FAMILIES AND CIVILIAN VOLUNTEERS FOR SHARING THEIR SKILLS, TIME AND COMMITMENT WITH THEIR COMMUNITIES.  EVERY DAY MARINE CORPS VOLUNTEERS EMBODY THE THEME OF NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK "CELEBRATING PEOPLE IN ACTION." THEY SUPPORT OUR MARINES AND THEIR FAMILIES, BOTH AT WAR AND AS THEY TRANSITION HOME - SUSTAINING STRONG COMMUNITIES ACROSS OUR BASES AND STATIONS.
2.  ALL MARINE CORPS VOLUNTEERS - ACTIVE, VETERAN, CIVILIAN AND RETIRED - UNDERSTAND THAT THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS AID OUR OVERALL MISSION READINESS.  WHETHER SHARING TIME HELPING NEIGHBORS, COWORKERS, FELLOW PATRIOTS, OR SUPPORTING OUR WOUNDED WARRIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES, YOUR EFFORTS HAVE PROFOUND AND LASTING EFFECTS THAT STRENGTHEN THE MARINE CORPS FAMILY.  COMMANDERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO EXPRESS THEIR APPRECIATION FOR MARINE CORPS VOLUNTEERS BY SUPPORTING EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES THAT RECOGNIZE THEIR VOLUNTEERS' EFFORTS AND COMMITMENT.  WE ARE THANKFUL FOR OUR VOLUNTEERS EVERY DAY, BUT THIS TIME OF YEAR IS PARTICULARLY SPECIAL AS IT PROVIDES US AN OPPORTUNITY TO HIGHLIGHT OUR VOLUNTEERS' SELFLESSNESS AND FIDELITY.
3.  BONNIE AND I EXTEND OUR DEEPEST GRATITUDE TO ALL VOLUNTEERS WHO FREELY GIVE THEIR TIME AND RESOURCES TO OUR MARINE CORPS AND OUR COMMUNITIES.
4.  SEMPER FIDELIS, JAMES F. AMOS, GENERAL, U.S. MARINE CORPS, COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS.//
