GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  I am pleased to send my personal congratulations to the Marines and Sailors of 1st Marine Division on the occasion of your 77th anniversary.
2.  Since 1 February 1941, in times of war and peace, your selfless service and daring accomplishments have contributed incalculably to the defense of our freedom.
3.  No matter the clime or place, whether Guadalcanal, Chosin, Hue, Fallujah or Marjah, you have taken the fight to the enemy and your fighting spirit across the decades has inspired generations of your fellow Marines and Americans.
3.  You continue to uphold the legacy of the “Old Breed” with true professionalism and courage.  As you pause to celebrate your anniversary, remember those of the 1st Marine Division who have made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.
