Recycling contest wraps up, winners announced

20 Apr 2006 | Staff Sgt. Matthew Bates

The 60th and 660th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron teams earned top honors in this year’s base recycling contest.

The 60th AMXS received first place for most weight collected, at 764.4 pounds, and the 660th AMXS received first place for most money collected with a total of $386.87.

In the individual category, Mr. Michael Scouten with the 60th Operations Support Squadron took first place for most weight collected, at 372 pounds, and Staff Sgt. Richmond Hinton, a member of the 660th AMXS, earned first place for most money collected with $216.07.

In all, 21 teams from around the base participated in this year’s contest, which was designed to promote awareness of the benefits of recycling among base employees and residents.

Just because the contest is over, though, this does not mean recycling should stop, say base environmental officials.

“While participating in a contest is fun, we want people to recognize that recycling is a year-long activity,” said Mrs. Delores Tiburcio, Travis’ recycling program manager. “It’s our hope that those who participated in the event will continue to recycle every day ... and get others too as well.”

Prizes for the winning teams and individuals included a fleece jacket, a T-shirt, a tote bag and a $25 gift certificate from AAFES.
