GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  This message announces available training seats for Marines to attend courses of instruction at the Naval School of Music (NAVSOM) aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia Beach, Virginia.  This message is provided as a planning tool for commands to nominate Marines for attendance.  Due to the length of training, attendance requires a Permanent Change of Station (PCS).
2.  Music Unit Leader Course (ULC) CID N0355L2.
2.a.  This course provides intermediate technical instruction on rehearsing and conducting ceremonial bands, rehearsing and conducting popular music groups, performing the duties of Drum Major for ceremonial bands, analyzing and writing advanced music, and performing technical and non-technical support for performances.
2.b.  Prerequisites.
2.b.1.  5524 Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).
2.b.2.  Must be a Subsequent Term Alignment Plan (STAP) Marine.
2.b.3.  Must have completed 24 months time on station by 1 December 2019.
2.b.4.  Instrumental proficiency assessment completed no more than 6 months prior to submission.
2.b.5.  ULC Ear Training diagnostic examination completed no more than 3 months prior to submission.
2.b.6.  ULC Music Theory diagnostic examination completed no more than 3 months prior to submission.

2.e.  In accordance with reference (a), this course is a prerequisite for selection to Enlisted Conductor (5519), Drum Major (5521), and Small Ensemble Leader (5522).

3.a.  This course provides advanced technical instruction on conducting and rehearsing techniques, ear training, music theory, counterpoint, music history, form and analysis, and band scoring.
3.b.  Prerequisites.
3.b.1.  5524 Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).
3.b.2.  Must be a Music Unit Leader Course (ULC) Graduate.
3.b.3.  Must have completed 24 months time on station by 1 December 2019.
3.b.4.  Instrumental proficiency assessment completed no more than 6 months prior to submission.
3.b.5.  SMC Ear Training diagnostic examination completed no more than 3 months prior to submission.
3.b.6.  SMC Music Theory diagnostic examination completed no more than 3 months prior to submission.

4.  All nomination packages will be submitted to Communication Directorate, Marine Corps Field Music, no later than 2359 EST 11 August 2019.  In the event more nominations are received than seats available, a selection panel will convene to determine the most qualified applicants for attendance.
