GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Aviation career progression during the TACAIR transition is an important topic for the Commandant of the Marine Corps, winged aviators, and those officers currently in flight training.  The TACAIR transition will continue for 15 more active duty squadrons over the next decade.  The purpose of this MARADMIN is to provide background information and links to additional and supporting online resources that will provide career timing considerations for all TACAIR legacy aircrew to consider.  In keeping faith with all aviation officers, Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) will provide as much information as possible to arm each officer with the necessary tools and information to make the best possible career decisions.  This message serves as one tool to educate Primary Military Occupational Specialties (PMOSs) 7525, 7509, and 7523 officers about factors surrounding the decision to transition to the F-35.  It is the responsibility of each officer to make an educated, career path decision based on personal desire and career timing.  Communication with leadership and MMOA is essential.  While the F/A-18 and AV-8B sundown, there will still be a need for legacy aircrew until 2030.  The needs of the Marine Corps and career timing may preclude some officers from transitioning.  For officers whose career timing does not support transition to a new PMOS, there will still be opportunities to promote and rise in the Marine Corps.
2.  This MARADMIN is part one of a two part effort.  After reading this MARADMIN, all TACAIR officers with less than 14 years time-in-service (TIS) should review and reference the FY19 TACAIR Transition Plan and the FY19 TACAIR Legacy Road Map Brief, available for download at the Headquarters Marine Aviation website at https:(slash)(slash)aviation.usmc.afpims.mil/Branches/Manpower-and-Support/.  The FY19 TACAIR Transition Plan provides the Marine Corps’ plan for legacy squadron transition to the F-35.  The FY19 TACAIR Legacy Road Map Brief provides a wide variety of career timing considerations and transition opportunities for officers of the 7525, 7509, and 7523 PMOSs.  It also includes career timing examples to illustrate points mentioned in the presentation.
3.  The FY19 TACAIR Transition Plan and the FY19 TACAIR Legacy Road Map Brief should be referenced concurrently to calculate career timing against possible career options and personal desires.  It is highly recommended that officers contact Manpower Management Records and Performance (MMRP) for professional career counselling and as well as Officer Assignments (MMOA) for any additional questions or advice regarding transition timing and opportunities.
4.  The Marine Corps will provide the transition demand signal for TACAIR legacy aircrew via multiple avenues to include the annual Transition Conversion (TC) Boards, messaging MARADMINs, MMOA Road Show briefs, MMOA website updates, and personal interaction with the fixed-wing aviation community via MMOA monitors.  Based on need, HQMC will offer transition slots through the venues mentioned above.
5.  ASM will update this message yearly or as needed, based on emerging changes to the TACAIR Transition Plan.
