GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  October is Domestic Violence Prevention Month.  Events are held across the nation to raise awareness of domestic abuse and provide community education on available resources.
2.  The Office of the Secretary of Defense’s 2019 theme is “Mobilize help for relationship health and safety.”
3.  Know the signs of domestic abuse.  Everyone deserves safety and respect online and in-person.  Using technology to control, threaten, or harass a spouse or partner is abuse.  You have the right to keep passwords private, turn off your phone, and control online images of yourself.
4.  Know the reporting options. Victim advocacy and clinical services are available with both reporting options—unrestricted and restricted. Unrestricted reporting includes law enforcement and command involvement, while restricted reporting does not.
5.  Offer support if you suspect someone is in an unhealthy relationship. Reach out, listen patiently, and be familiar with local resources.
6.  Resources, services, and help are always available.  For additional information contact the local installation Family Advocacy Program, Chaplain, Community Counseling Program, or Military Provost Office.  Help is also available at the National Domestic Violence Hotline (800-799-7233), Marine Corps DSTRESS Line (877-476-7734 CONUS/098-970-7734 OCONUS), and Military OneSource at WWW.MILITARYONESOURCE.MIL (1-800-342-9647).
7.  To show support for the 2019 Domestic Violence Prevention Month, the Marine Corps community will participate in local installation events and activities.  Leadership support of these events is instrumental in making it clear that domestic abuse will not be tolerated in the Marine Corps.
8.  This MARADMIN is applicable to the Marine Corps Total Force and will expire one year from date published.
9.  Release authorized by M. C. Balocki, Director, Marine and Family Programs Division.//
