GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  This MARADMIN solicits nominations for the Official Ceremonial Narrator and Public Address Announcer for Marine Barracks Washington, D.C.
2.  On 5 July 1957, Marine Barracks Washington conducted its first “Evening Parade,” a summer tradition that has continued to the present.  The unique nature of this post, musical excellence, marching precision, and the storied traditions of our Corps are on display at Marine Barracks Washington on Fridays and the United States Marine Corps War Memorial on Tuesdays throughout the summer.  Marine Barracks Washington also hosts or participates in retirement ceremonies, relief and appointment ceremonies, general officer promotions, Medal of Honor ceremonies, and Marine Corps birthday cake cutting ceremonies.  Each performing unit or sequence is introduced by a descriptive statement or narration announced by the Official Ceremonial Narrator of Marine Barracks Washington, otherwise known as “The Voice.”  The narrator has a critical role in all ceremonies, providing illustrative descriptive and historical information for each sequence, and audience direction while also setting the proper tone and atmosphere to maxmize the guest experience.
3.  In addition to criteria contained in the reference, the barracks narrator should be a motivated enlisted Marine with a commanding voice possessing the skills of vocal clarity, dynamic phrasing, and a wide range of oral articulation and accents.  He or she must be a Marine of high integrity and professionalism who can be flexible in working with the barracks operations team while maintaining a diplomatic demeanor when confronted with late changes to live or recorded narration.  The barracks narrator is required to converse with high ranking military and government officials and therefore must have outstanding military bearing and appearance.  The most qualified Marine will combine excellent organizational and communication skills with commanding presence and unflappable poise during live performance announcing.  Ultimately, “The Voice” is a representative and vocal ambassador of Marine Barracks Washington, the Commandant, and the Marine Corps to the public.
4.  Commands with qualified candidates who desire consideration as the barracks narrator should screen those Marines and their records and submit nominations no later than 1 February 2020.  Nominations must consist of the basic individual record/basic training record; all pages 11, UPB, and 13; and an official photograph.  Additional screening materials will be solicited following initial submission, to include a voice recording.  Submit nominations to:  Sergeant Major Adrian L. Tagliere, Marine Barracks Washington, 8th and I streets S.E., Washington, DC 20390-5000 or via electronic correspondence at adrian.tagliere@usmc.mil.  Ensure command point of contact information and commercial phone numbers are provided.
5.  Those candidates considered most qualified will be notified and subsequently undergo a personal interview and screening at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C.  Interview dates and funding data will be provided via separate correspondence.  The selected narrator will be expected to execute orders to Marine Barracks Washington in Summer 2020.
6.  Telephonic inquiries are encouraged.  Direct all calls to Sergeant Major Adrian L. Tagliere at the command numbers provided above.
7.  Release authorized by Lieutenant General John J. Broadmeadow, Director, Marine Corps Staff.//
