GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  The purpose of this MARADMIN is to provide an update of awards since the last update, MARADMIN 379/22.

3.  National Defense Service Medal (NDSM)
Effective December 31, 2022, the authorization to award the National Defense Service Medal to members of the U.S. Armed Forces serving on active duty on or after September 11, 2001 is terminated.  Termination is based on the United States no longer conducting large-scaled combat operations in designated geographic locations as a result of the terrorist attacks on the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001.
4.  (Update to MARADMIN 379/22) Armed Forces Service Medal (AFSM) is amended to add Marine Military Police Detachment, MCB Quantico, in support of the 20 Jan 2021 Presidential Inauguration, also did not meet the 30 day minimum eligibility criteria to be awarded the AFSM.
5.  Humanitarian Service Medal (HSM)                   01Aug20-31Oct20
The Joint Chief of Staff has approved the HSM for the California Wild Land Fires for those personnel who directly participated in the humanitarian act or operation, and who were physically present at the designated location during the period of immediate relief.

Deployment to the area of humanitarian assistance in and of itself does not constitute HSM entitlement.  Commanders in the grade of O-6 and above have been given awarding authority for determining HSM eligibility and shall consolidate a roster of all military personnel eligible for the award.  Upon approval, the roster shall be submitted to CMC (MMMA-2) using an excel spreadsheet (HSM.XLS) via the Improved Awards Processing System, including full name, rank, and EDIPI.
