GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  ON BEHALF OF ALL MARINES, I SALUTE YOU AS YOU
CELEBRATE 216 YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO OUR NATION.
2.  SINCE 4 AUGUST 1790, THE COAST GUARD'S SELFLESS SERVICE HAS BEEN
A LEGACY OF VIGILANCE, COURAGE, AND RESPONSIVENESS. AS EXEMPLIFIED
AT GUADALCANAL BY SIGNALMAN FIRST CLASS DOUGLAS MUNRO, MEDAL OF
HONOR RECIPIENT, THE MARINES AND COAST GUARD HAVE LONG STOOD
SHOULDER-TO-SHOULDER IN SERVICE ON THE SEAS. AS WE FIGHT THE GLOBAL
WAR ON TERROR, THE COAST GUARD CONTINUES TO DISTINGUISH ITSELF
GUARDING OIL PLATFORMS AND DEFEATING PIRATES OVERSEAS AS WELL AS
SAFEGUARDING OUR SHORES AND COMING TO THE AID OF THOSE IN NEED AT
HOME.
3.  AS YOU CELEBRATE YOUR ANNIVERSARY, BE CONFIDENT THAT THE ENTIRE
CORPS REMAINS PROUD OF YOUR SACRIFICES AND SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY.
SEMPER FIDELIS AND SEMPER PARATUS, M. W. HAGEE, GENERAL, UNITED
STATES MARINE CORPS, COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS.//
