GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. PURPOSE. THIS MESSAGE IS PROMULGATED TO AMPLIFY
SORTS
REPORTING GUIDANCE FOR UNITS DEPLOYED IN SUPPORT OF CONTINGENCY AND
COMBAT OPERATIONS.
2. BACKGROUND. SORTS IS A JOINT STAFF DIRECTED REQUIREMENT.
SORTS IS THE ONLY COMMON DOD REPORTING SYSTEM WHICH ADDRESSES
CURRENT READINESS. UNIT SORTS REPORTS PROVIDE CRITICAL READINESS
DATA TO DOD, COMBATANT COMMANDS, SERVICES, AND COMBAT SUPPORT
AGENCIES.
3. REPORTING GUIDANCE.
A. REF A IS CANCELLED.
B. REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
(1) REPORTING UNITS WILL CONTINUE TO SUBMIT SORTS DURING
CONTINGENCY AND COMBAT OPERATIONS.
(2) CHANGES IN GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION OF THE UNIT AND CHANGES IN
ADCON/OPCON WILL BE REPORTED WITHIN 24 HOURS PER SORTS REPORTING
REQUIREMENTS, WHICH ARE LISTED IN APPENDIX D OF REF (B).
C. COMMANDERS REMARKS. THE COMMANDERS REMARKS WILL AMPLIFY SORTS
RATINGS. REMARKS SHOULD ADDRESS ANY CHANGES TO THE UNITS MISSION
AND ANY RENAMING/TASK ORGANIZATION OF THE UNIT DUE TO OPERATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS.
D. TASK ORGANIZATION REPORTING
(1) UNITS REORGANIZED FOR A SPECIFIC OPERATION WILL CONTINUE TO
REPORT SORTS UNDER THEIR ORIGINALLY ASSIGNED UIC WITH AMPLIFYING
REMARKS.
(2) CORRECT CURRENT STATUS AND ACTIVITY CODES (APPENDIX E, TABLE 3,
REF B) MUST BE USED. AN ACTIVITY (ACTIV) REMARK WILL INCLUDE/EXPLAIN
THE NAME OF THE TASK ORGANIZED UNITS (EX XTH MARINES IS NOW RLT-X).
E. MPS. UNITS WHICH FALL IN ON MARITIME PREPOSITIONED SHIPS (MPS)
EQUIPMENT WILL ADD THE APPLICABLE MISSION ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT (MEE)
AND PRINCIPAL END ITEMS (PEI) TO THEIR SORTS REPORT. SORTS
SUBMISSIONS MUST REACH THE MASTER DATABASE WITHIN 24 HRS OF
CHANGE IN EQUIPMENT REPORTING.
F. RBE. ALL REMAIN BEHIND EQUIPMENT (RBE) MUST BE SUBTRACTED FROM
THE LOSING UNITS SORTS REPORT. UNITS THAT PICK UP EQUIPMENT
DESIGNATED AS RBE WILL ADD THE APPLICABLE MISSION ESSENTIAL
EQUIPMENT (MEE) AND PRINCIPAL END ITEMS (PEI) TO THEIR SORTS REPORT.
SORTS SUBMISSIONS MUST REACH THE MASTER DATABASE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF
THE CHANGE IN EQUIPMENT REPORTING.
G. REMARKS FOR GAIN OR LOSS OF MPS AND RBE ARE MANDATORY.
4. TIMELY AND ACCURATE REPORTING OF UNIT SORTS WILL ASSIST IN
MAINTAINING THE CORPS EXPEDITIONARY READINESS.
