GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  THE SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE MARINE CORPS (SMMC) WILL CONVENE THE 2014 SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE MARINE CORPS SYMPOSIUM (SMMCS-14) FROM 11 AUGUST 2014 - 15 AUGUST 2014 IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION.

5. THE SMMC OFFICE EXERCISES OVERALL STAFF COGNIZANCE FOR SMMCS-14, TO INCLUDE SOCIAL EVENT COORDINATION, AND IS THE INFORMATION RELEASING AUTHORITY FOR SMMCS-14. THE DIRECTOR, SPECIAL PROJECTS DIRECTORATE (SPD), PROVIDES DIRECT SUPPORT TO THE SMMC OFFICE AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR LOGISTICAL, ADMINISTRATIVE, AND COMMAND CENTER OPERATIONS SUPPORT FOR SMMCS-14. POINTS OF CONTACT (POC) FOR THE SMMC OFFICE AND SPD ARE CONTAINED IN PARAGRAPH 15.
6. DETAILED PROGRAMS ARE BEING DEVELOPED AND WILL BE PROMULGATED SEPARATELY.
7. TASKS
A. INVITED SGTSMAJ, MGYSGTS, AND CMDCMS ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT A VISITORS REQUEST VIA JOINT PERSONNEL ADJUDICATION SYSTEM (JPAS) WITH THE SECURITY MANAGEMENT OFFICE CODE 540080084; THE POC FOR THIS REQUEST IS MR. EDDIE GINN. ALL ATTENDEES ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A SECRET CLEARANCE TO ATTEND CLASSIFIED BRIEFS.
B. ADMINISTRATIVE, LOGISTICS, AND INFORMATION TO FACILITATE ONLINE REGISTRATION, LODGING, TRANSPORTATION, AND ANY SPECIAL NEEDS/REQUESTS WILL BE SENT VIA EMAIL. TO ENSURE ATTENDEES RECEIVE INFORMATION IN A TIMELY MANNER, PROVIDE CURRENT ATTENDEE AND SPOUSE CONTACT INFORMATION - TO INCLUDE EMAIL ADDRESSES FOR SPOUSES. SPOUSE CONTACT INFORMATION SHOULD BE SENT TO SPOUSE PROGRAM CORRDINATOR LISTED IN PARAGRAPH 15.
8. INDIVIDUAL COMMANDS WILL ISSUE ORDERS FOR THEIR ATTENDEES. ALL ORDERS SHOULD BE NON-REPORTING.  GOVERNMENT QUARTERS AND MESSING ARE NOT AVAILABLE.
9. LOCATION. THE CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD AT THE GAYLORD NATIONAL RESORT AND CONVENTION CENTER, 201 WATERFRONT STREET, NATIONAL HARBOR MD, 20745. MORE INFORMATION ABOUT LODGING AND REGISTRATION WILL BE PROVIDED THROUGH AN ADMINISTRATIVE/LOGISTICS MESSAGE VIA EMAIL. THIS ONE-STOP REGISTRATION/RESERVATION FEATURE WILL REDUCE THE TIME AND EFFORT NORMALLY ASSOCIATED WITH REGISTERING FOR THIS EVENT.
10. GOVERNMENT TRANSPORTATION WILL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS. GOVERNMENT TRANSPORTATION IS NOT AUTHORIZED FROM/TO COMMERCIAL AIRPORTS. RECOMMEND ARRIVAL AT REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT (CLOSEST TO THE SYMPOSIUM SITE). COMMERCIAL TAXI AND SHUTTLE SERVICE IS AVAILABLE FROM/TO DULLES INTERNATIONAL AND REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT.
11. FINANCIAL. A NON-REIMBURSABLE FEE WILL BE COLLECTED FROM ALL ATTENDEES AND SUPPORT STAFF PARTICIPATING IN THE SMMCS-14. THIS FEE COVERS THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH CATERED MEALS, REFRESHMENTS AND SOCIAL EVENTS ON THE OFFICIAL SCHEDULE. THIS COST IS NOT REIMBURSABLE ON TRAVEL CLAIMS - THE COST OF MEALS IS COVERED FOR ATTENDEES ON TRAVEL ORDERS THROUGH PER DIEM. THE PREFERRED METHOD OF PAYMENT IS THROUGH THE ONLINE REGISTRATION PROCESS. ALTERNATE METHOD OF PAYMENT: MAIL FEES TO THE ADDRESS PROVIDED BELOW OR HAND DELIVER TO PENTAGON ROOM 4E531 NLT 25 JULY 2014. CHECKS PAYABLE TO "SPECIAL EVENTS FUND" SHOULD BE MAILED TO: SPECIAL PROJECTS DIRECTORATE, HQMC, PO BOX 25272, ARLINGTON, VA 22202-9272. DUE TO THE REQUIREMENT FOR SPD TO PRE-ARRANGE CATERING, RSVP'ING FOR THIS EVENT OBLIGATES THE ATTENDEE TO THE AMOUNT DUE (NO ADJUSTMENTS WILL BE MADE AFTER 25 JULY 2014).
12. UNIFORMS. THE REQUIRED UNIFORMS AND CIVILIAN CLOTHING ARE DRESS BLUE/WHITE B (RIBBONS AND BADGES), SUMMER SERVICE "C," BUSINESS SUIT, BUSINESS CASUAL, CIVILIAN CASUAL AND ATHLETIC WEAR. THE SMMC WILL HOST A SUNSET PARADE ON TUESDAY, 12 AUGUST 2014, AND AN EVENING PARADE ON FRIDAY, 15 AUGUST 2014.
13. WEATHER. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES FOR WASHINGTON, DC IN AUGUST ARE 87 DEGREES (HI) AND 65 (LOW) WITH HUMIDITY AROUND 70 PERCENT. THE AREA AVERAGES APPROXIMATELY 3.9 INCHES OF RAIN IN AUGUST.
14. SMMCS-14 COMMAND CENTER
 A. THE COMMAND CENTER WILL BE SET UP TO PROVIDE APPROPRIATE ADMINISTRATIVE AND LOGISTICAL SUPPORT TO ALL ATTENDEES. PERSONNEL AND RESOURCES ARE ASSIGNED TO THE COMMAND CENTER ACCORDING TO KNOWN REQUIREMENTS BASED ON THE OFFICIAL AGENDAS.
 B. THE COMMAND CENTER WILL BE LOCATED IN THE GAYLORD NATIONAL RESORT AND CONVENTION CENTER AND WILL BE OPERATIONAL MONDAY THRU FRIDAY FROM 0700 TO 1830.
 C. PROJECTED CAPABILITIES ARE:

 (5) THE COMMAND CENTER WILL PROVIDE AND MAINTAIN NIPRNET WORKSTATIONS FOR SMMCS-14 ATTENDEES. THE WORKSTATIONS WILL BE LOCATED CLOSE TO, BUT NOT INSIDE OF, THE COMMAND CENTER.
 (6) BRIEFINGS SUPPORT. THE COMMAND CENTER WILL BE PREPARED TO SUPPORT ALL KNOWN BRIEFERS' REQUIREMENTS. THE NORMAL ORGANIC AUDIO-VISUAL AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CAPABILITIES ARE AVAILABLE, WHICH INCLUDES SCREENS, PROJECTORS, VIDEO PLAYERS, AND LAPTOPS CAPABLE OF USING CDS. IF ANY BRIEFER REQUIRES ADDITIONAL SUPPORT, PLEASE CONTACT MR. RICHARD JOPLIN.
  D.  COMMAND CENTER LIMITATIONS. THE COMMAND CENTER WILL NOT HAVE ON-SITE CAPABILITY FOR CLASSIFIED FAX, SIPRNET EMAIL, AND STU/STE PHONE. ANY REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASSIFIED MATERIAL SUPPORT WILL BE ADDRESSED TO THOSE IDENTIFIED IN PARAGRAPH 15 BEFORE 1 AUGUST 2014. ALL CLASSIFIED MATERIAL HANDLING/STORAGE MUST BE COORDINATED WITH THE COMMAND CENTER.
