SUBJ/2014 THANKSGIVING SAFETY MESSAGE//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  MARINES, AS YOU GATHER WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS THIS THANKSGIVING, ENJOY THE OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE WITH YOUR LOVED ONES. I WOULD ALSO ASK THAT YOU REMEMBER OUR MARINES AND SAILORS WHO ARE FORWARD DEPLOYED IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.
2.  LEADERS AT ALL LEVELS, MOST IMPORTANTLY OUR NCOS, DISCUSS HOLIDAY PLANS WITH YOUR MARINES WITH THE SAME DEGREE OF THOROUGHNESS YOU WOULD FOR A COMBAT MISSION. TAKE SPECIFIC INTEREST IN MARINES WHO WILL BE DRIVING LONG DISTANCES AND ENSURE THEIR PLANS ADEQUATELY ADDRESS THE RISKS OF FATIGUE, WEATHER, DISTANCE, DISTRACTIONS, AND IMPAIRED DRIVING. YOUR LEADERSHIP IS A DECISIVE FACTOR IN PRESERVING OUR MOST PRECIOUS ASSETS-OUR MARINES AND SAILORS.
3.  HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING. SEMPER FIDELIS, JOSEPH F. DUNFORD, JR., GENERAL, U.S. MARINE CORPS, COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS.
