SUBJ/BOARD TO SELECT NOMINEES FOR CONSIDERATION FOR ASSIGNMENT AS THE 18TH SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE MARINE CORPS//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. A BOARD TO SELECT NOMINEES FOR CONSIDERATION FOR SELECTION AS THE 18TH SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE MARINE CORPS WILL CONVENE 8 DECEMBER THROUGH 12 DECEMBER 2014, FOR A PERIOD OF ABOUT FIVE (5) DAYS.
2. SELECTION PROCESS. THE PROCESS FOR SELECTING THE 18TH SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE MARINE CORPS WILL OCCUR AS FOLLOWS.
   A. THE BOARD WILL CONSIST OF GENERAL OFFICERS. ALL BOARD MEMBERS WILL HAVE HAD SERGEANT MAJOR REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES AS A GENERAL OFFICER.
   B. THE BOARD WILL DETERMINE THE FIVE MOST QUALIFIED SERGEANTS MAJOR FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE CMC TO BE THE 18TH SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE MARINE CORPS.
   C. PREREQUISITES. TO COMPETE FOR SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE MARINE CORPS, THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM PREREQUISITES APPLY.
     (1) MUST HAVE BROAD EXPERIENCE TO INCLUDE COMBAT OPERATIONS EXPERIENCE.
     (2) MUST BE SERVING IN A GENERAL OFFICER SLATED BILLET AS A SENIOR ENLISTED ADVISOR FOR A MINIMUM OF 24 MONTHS AS OF THE CONVENING DATE OF THIS BOARD.
     (3) MUST HAVE MINIMUM OF 25 YEARS TIME IN SERVICE UPON ASSIGMENT AS 18TH SMMC.
     (4) MUST BE WILLING TO OCCUPY THE DESIGNATED QUARTERS ESTABLISHED FOR THE SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE MARINE CORPS.
     (5) MUST POSSESS STRONG COMMUNICATION SKILLS, BOTH WRITTEN AND ORAL.
3. NON-CONSIDERATION. ALL ELIGIBLE SERGEANTS MAJOR WHO DO NOT DESIRE CONSIDERATION FOR SELECTION WILL INFORM CMC (MMPR-2) OF SUCH IN WRITING. NON-CONSIDERATION REQUESTS WILL HAVE NO IMPACT ON FUTURE RETENTION. THE REQUEST DOES NOT NEED TO DISCLOSE WHY NON-CONSIDERATION IS REQUESTED. REQUESTS FOR NON-CONSIDERATION MUST ARRIVE NOT LATER THAN (NLT) 2359, 7 DECEMBER 2014. ONCE SUBMITTED, REQUESTS FOR NON-CONSIDERATION MAY NOT BE RETRACTED.
4. ACTION
   A. COMMANDERS WILL ENSURE EVERY SERGEANT MAJOR IS COUNSELED ON THE CONTENTS OF THIS MARADMIN.
   B. COMMANDERS MUST SUBMIT MESSAGES REGARDING ANY ELIGIBLE SERGEANT MAJOR WHO IS THE SUBJECT OF ADJUDICATED DISCIPLINARY ACTION (BY MILITARY OR CIVILIAN AUTHORITIES) NOT PREVIOUSLY REPORTED ON EARLIER FITNESS REPORTS. MESSAGES WILL BE SUBMITTED TO THE CMC (MMPR-2) PROVIDING A FULL, DETAILED REPORT OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES INVOLVED. MESSAGES MUST ARRIVE AT THIS HEADQUARTERS NLT 2359, 7 DECEMBER 2014.
   C. ALL ELIGIBLE SERGEANTS MAJOR WILL ENSURE THEIR OFFICIAL MILITARY PERSONNEL FILE (OMPF), MASTER BRIEF SHEET (MBS), MCTFS DATA, AND OTHER PERTINENT RECORDS (HEALTH AND DENTAL) ARE CURRENT AND COMPLETE.
   D. PHOTOGRAPHS. ALL ELIGIBLE SERGEANTS MAJOR ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT AN OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF THE CONVENING DATE OF THE BOARD. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS ARE PREFERRED AS THEY CAN BE ELECTRONICALLY FILED IN THE OMPF. FOR CLARITY, THE PHOTO SHOULD BE TAKEN AGAINST A PLAIN BACKGROUND.
      (1) SUBMIT DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS TO CMC (MMRP) AT MMSBCVIC.MMSB.USMC.MIL VIA AN AUTHORIZED COMBAT VISUAL INFORMATION CENTER (CVIC). IF THE MARINE DOES NOT HAVE CVIC ACCESS BUT SOME OTHER MEANS OF TAKING A DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPH IS AVAILABLE, EMAIL THE PHOTOGRAPH VIA THE COMMAND'S ORGANIZATIONAL MAILBOX OR VIA THE COMMANDER, OR CHIEF OF STAFF TO:  MMSB.PHOTO(AT)USMC.MIL.
      (2) IF NECESSARY, HARDCOPY PHOTOGRAPHS MAY BE SUBMITTED DIRECTLY TO CMC (MMPR-2). SEE PARAGRAPH 5 FOR MAILING ADDRESS TO THE BOARD AND MMPR-2.
      (3) IF A PHOTOGRAPH CANNOT BE FORWARDED, ELIGIBLE SERGEANTS MAJOR MAY SUBMIT CORRESPONDENCE TO THE BOARD, VERIFIED BY THE COMMANDER, DOCUMENTING HEIGHT AND WEIGHT. SERGEANTS MAJOR WHO EXCEED HEIGHT/WEIGHT STANDARDS, BUT ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH BODY FAT PERCENT LIMITS, MUST PROVIDE APPROPRIATE CERTIFICATION BY THE COMMAND OF THEIR CURRENT BODY FAT PERCENTAGE.
      (4) SERGEANTS MAJOR ARE PERSONALLY RESPONSIBILE TO ENSURE THEIR PHOTOGRAPH IS SUBMITTED AND RECEIVED BY THE BOARD. CONFIRM RECEIPT OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS TO THE OMPF BY CONTACTING CMC (MMRP-20) OR BY CHECKING THE MMRP HOMEPAGE; FOR HARD-COPY PHOTOGRAPHS, CONTACT CMC (MMPR-2). SEE PARAGRAPH 5 FOR CONTACT INFORMATION.
   E. ALL ELIGIBLE SERGEANTS MAJOR CURRENTLY APPROVED TO TRANSFER TO THE FLEET MARINE CORPS RESERVE (FMCR) OR RETIRE PRIOR TO THE CONVENING DATE OF THE BOARD MAY REQUEST MODIFICATION OF THEIR EFFECTIVE FMCR OR RETIREMENT DATE (NOT TO EXCEED THIRTY (30) DAYS BEYOND THE DATE OF BOARD ADJOURNMENT) IF THEY DESIRE CONSIDERATION. SUBMIT SUCH REQUESTS TO CMC (MMSR-2) VIA NAVAL MESSAGE FOR FINAL APPROVAL.
