SUBJ/UNITED STATES NAVY ANNIVERSARY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  On behalf of all Marines, I am pleased to extend congratulations to the men and women of the United States Navy as you celebrate your 240th Birthday.
2.  Since 13 October 1775, the American people have come to depend upon their Navy to safeguard our shores, protect our vital interests, and defend our constitution.  In times of war and peace, your success in achieving these goals has established a legacy of courage, dedication, and selfless service that today serves as the core of the world’s most powerful Navy.
3.  This year also marks the 70th anniversary of our victory on Iwo Jima, one of the bloodiest battles of World War II and a reminder that Sailors and Marines have a legacy of fighting side by side during our Nation’s fiercest naval campaigns.  Our shared history, commitment, and sacrifice inform who we are, and it is no wonder that the Navy-Marine Corps Team continues to be characterized by its camaraderie, professionalism, and combat effectiveness.  As you celebrate your many achievements, please know that you have the deepest respect and support of the U.S. Marine Corps.
4.  Happy Birthday and Semper Fidelis!  Robert B. Neller, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
