GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  On behalf of all Marines, I want to congratulate the Marines, Sailors, and Civilians of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina on the occasion of your 100th Anniversary.
2.  Designated a Marine Corps Recruit Depot on 25 October 1915, Parris Island is the second oldest post in the Corps, and has a time-honored tradition of making the world's greatest warriors.  The island, where so many of our heroes were born and so many young lives transformed, is legendary.  More than one million men and women have accepted the challenge and have been forever transformed through the legendary rigors of recruit training.  During the last one hundred years, Marines from Parris Island have stood their posts around the world, brought peace to chaos, fought with honor, courage, and commitment in every major conflict in the 20th and 21st centuries, and added to our Corps' rich history.
3.  As you gather to celebrate Parris Island's many contributions to the Corps' legacy, and to pay tribute to its history and heritage, know that those who serve there today are continuing a proud legacy, one that is crucial to the Marine Corps' mission of making Marines, and essential to winning our Nation's battles.  Today, it is fitting to celebrate this anniversary and to pay tribute to those who have preceded you, knowing that Marines everywhere, as well as your fellow Americans, value your honorable service and are proud of the many accomplishments of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.
4.  Happy Anniversary and Semper Fidelis.  Robert B. Neller, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
