GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  The Marine Corps Reserve was established 100 years ago on 29 August 1916.  Since World War I, Reserve Marines have supported our country in every major conflict, and continue to do so as the most professional and capable reserve force the world has ever known.  In honor of this anniversary, a series of events will be executed to highlight and recognize the contribution of the Marine Corps Reserve over the past century.  Commander, Marine Forces Reserve is directed to lead planning, program development, and execution of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Centennial Commemoration (USMCR100).
2.  The year-long commemoration provides a national outreach opportunity for the Marine Corps.  It will begin with a multi-city media and community relations effort commencing 29 August 2016, followed by a one hundred day surge campaign across the nation.  The goals of this commemoration are to:
a) celebrate the Marine Corps’ rich history, heritage, and esprit de corps; b) thank Marine Corps families, employers, and community leaders; and c) highlight extraordinary Reserve Marines, past and present.  Commemoration activities should welcome neighboring communities, surrounding veteran and retiree organizations, civilian employers of Marines, and prominent local leadership.  The commemoration will serve to enhance recruiting efforts across the nation and instill a richer understanding and greater appreciation for the Total Force Marine Corps.  All activities must be consistent with applicable law and policy, and be mindful of our security environment.
3.  Semper Fidelis and Happy 100th Anniversary, Robert B. Neller, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
