FOR THE 2016 EXCEPTIONAL SEXUAL ASSAULT RESPONSE COORDINATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD.//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  The Department of Defense (DOD) Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO) annually recognizes a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) (active or reserve; military or civilian) from each military service whose work has been particularly noteworthy and who demonstrates outstanding service in support of our Service members.  One award will be presented to each of the following entities for a total of six awards:  Marine Corps, Navy, Army, Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and Coast Guard.  DOD SAPRO will announce awardees in time for the April 2016 observance of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM).
2.  Recognition of the 2016 Exceptional SARC of the Year shall be provided/presented in conjunction with local outreach initiatives/events during the April 2016 SAAPM.
3.  Nominee must meet the following eligibility requirements:
3.A.  Nominee must be military or federal government civilian.
3.B.  Nominee must be certified through the DOD Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program (D-SAACP) as a SARC.
3.C.  Nominee must be appointed in writing, be in good standing, and have served as the SARC on an installation, deployed environment, or in a reserve component during some or all of the 1 January  2015-31 December 2015 timeframe.
3.D.  Victim Advocates who executes the duties of a SARC are eligible.
3.E.  If a nominee does a permanent change of station or transfers during the award timeframe, the overall component or organization headquarters can still consider that nominee for the award.
3.F.  Provide written documentation indicating that a command review of the nominee’s personnel records occurred for any notation of convictions, non-judicial punishments, or other punitive administrative actions for sex-related offenses.
4.  The emailed submission must include the following:
4.A.  Nominee’s full name, office and cell phone numbers, and email address.
4.B.  Digital (.jpg format) head-and-shoulders color photograph of the nominee.
4.C.  Narrative of the nominee’s exceptional work, which should be no longer than two single-spaced pages, 8.5 in. x 11 in. pages, 1 in. margin, 12-point font.  All acronyms must be spelled out.  The narrative should include the submitter’s title, affiliation, and email and mailing addresses, in the event that the award reviewers have questions regarding the narrative.  The narrative should include as much detail as possible about the nominee’s accomplishments and services in supporting the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) program and/or victims.  As part of the narrative, the following questionsshould be addressed, as appropriate:
4.C.1.  What has the nominee accomplished on behalf of Service members, to include training or education of Service members on sexual assault prevention and response? Howare those accomplishments unique and original?
4.C.2.  What has the nominee done on behalf of sexual assault victims?  How are those accomplishments unique and original?
4.C.3.  What impact have the nominee’s efforts had on his or her respective organization?
4.C.4.  How have the actions of the nominee influenced attitudes, policies, or practices in victim services?
4.C.5.  How has the nominee’s work brought about change in new or nontraditional areas of victim assistance within the military environment?
4.C.6.  How have the nominee’s efforts contributed to fostering closer collaboration between the SARC and other SAPR stakeholders?
4.D.  Single-spaced biography of the nominee, not to exceed one page using the same format prescribed for the narrative.
4.E.  Citation, not to exceed 12 lines, highlighting the nominee’s accomplishments.  A sample can be requested from Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) SAPR (MFB).
4.F.  Endorsement by the first General Officer in the chain of command.  Endorsement above the first General Officer is not required.
4.G.  Additional information (optional) for the review committee to consider about the nominee or program.
Examples include articles or products created by the candidate that have been referenced in the narrative.
5.  Nominations are due electronically to HQMC SAPR (MFB) no later than Friday, 12 February 2016.  All submissions shall be emailed to christine.heit(AT)usmc.mil.
