SUBJ/MARINE CORPS RESERVE CENTENNIAL COMMEMORATION MESSAGE//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  As we commemorate the Centennial Anniversary of the Marine Corps Reserve on August 29, 2016, We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all Reserve Marines who are serving our Nation at home and abroad, and to the families, employers and communities who provide the support that enables them to serve.
2.  From former Commandant William P. Biddle’s first proposition for a Marine Corps Reserve militia in 1914, through the establishment of a federal Marine Corps Reserve in 1916 by congressional action, to the modern day force of citizen Marines, the Marine Corps Reserve has contributed significantly to our National Defense in every major conflict.  From World War I through the current War on Terrorism, the last 100 Years have illustrated the dedication of the Marine Corps Reserve.  Their selfless service is in keeping with the commemoration’s theme, “Semper Fi, America.  Always Faithful.  Always Ready.”
3.  Reserve Marines of today are shaped by a rich history and tradition of answering our nation’s call in times of war and peace.  Since September 11, 2001, over 83,800 Reserve Marines have mobilized in support of the Marine Corps’ global requirements.  The Reserve Force has never been more ready, relevant, or aligned with the Active Component than it is today.  Their skills, professionalism, adaptability, and innovation provide strategic flexibility and operational capabilities integral to our Total Force.
4.  It is vital to give the proper recognition to our Reserve Marines, past and present.  Commanders are encouraged to take time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Reserve Marines in our history.  Commanders are further encouraged to promote participation in Centennial Commemoration events both on installations and in local communities as well as develop themes specific to their locations.
5.  I thank all Reserve Marines, your families, communities, and supporting employers for serving our Marine Corps and our Nation.  Congratulations on your Centennial!
6.  Semper Fidelis, Robert B. Neller, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
