GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. THE PURPOSE OF THIS MESSAGE IS TO SOLICIT
NOMINATIONS FOR THE COLOR SERGEANT OF THE MARINE CORPS.
THE COLOR SERGEANT OF THE MARINE CORPS IS THE COMMANDANT'S
REPRESENTATIVE FOR ALL FORMAL CEREMONIAL COMMITMENTS REQUIRING
THE MARINE CORPS BATTLE COLOR. THE COLOR SERGEANT TRAVELS
THROUGHOUT CONUS AND ABROAD WITH THE BATTLE COLOR DETACHMENT,
SHOWCASING THE CEREMONIAL CAPABILITIES OF MARINE BARRACKS,
WASHINGTON. ADDITIONALLY, THE COLOR SERGEANT SERVES AS THE
MARINE REPRESENTATIVE FOR ALL JOINT SERVICE AND WHITE HOUSE
FUNCTIONS WHEN THE MARINE BATTLE COLOR IS REQUIRED. THE COLOR
SERGEANT OF THE MARINE CORPS IS ONE OF THE MOST VISIBLE
MARINES IN OUR CORPS. IN ADDITION TO THE CRITERIA IN THE
REFERENCE, NOMINEES MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
A. 74 TO 76 INCHES TALL
B. MUST BE WITHIN HT/WT STANDARDS AND POSSESS OUTSTANDING
PHYSICAL STAMINA.
C. GRADE OF SERGEANT
D. A MINUMUM OF 2 YEARS OBLIGATED SERVICE TO EXECUTE PCS
ORDERS.
E. BE ELIGIBLE FOR A WHITE HOUSE CLEARANCE (MIN CAT II). THIS
PROCESS ENTAILS A THOROUGH EXAMINATION OF THE APPLICANTS ETHOS,
CORE VALUES, AND FINANCIAL HISTORY.
F. MINIMUM OF 18 MONTHS TIME ON STATION.
G. POSSESS UNQUESTIONABLE MORAL CHARACTER AND SUPERLATIVE
LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS.
2. COMMANDS WHO HAVE QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WHO DESIRE
CONSIDERATION FOR ASSIGNMENT AS THE COLOR SERGEANT OF THE MARINE
CORPS SHOULD SCREEN PERSONNEL, RECORDS, AND SUBMIT LETTERS OF
RECOMMENDATION, TO INCLUDE BIR/BTR, PG 11, 12, 13'S, AND OFFICIAL
PHOTOGRAPH, TO SERGEANT MAJOR BATTAGLIA, MARINE BARRACKS, 8TH AND
I STREETS S. E., WASHINGTON, DC 20390-5000, NLT 1 NOV 2003.
ENSURE POC AND COMMERCIAL PHONE NUMBERS ARE PROVIDED.
3. THOSE CANDIDATES CONSIDERED MOST QUALIFIED WILL BE
NOTIFIED, PERSONALLY INTERVIEWED AND EVALUATED AT MARINE
BARRACKS, WASHINGTON, DC DURING THE PERIOD OF 1-5 DEC 2003.
FUNDING DATA WILL BE PROVED VIA SEP CORRESPONDENCE. UNIFORM FOR
SCREENING WILL BE SERVICE "A" WITH RIBBONS AND BADGES. UNIFORM
FOR CLOSE ORDER DRILL EVALUATION WILL BE SERVICE "C".
