GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  THE PURPOSE OF THIS MARADMIN IS TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE OF AWARDS SINCE THE LAST UPDATE, MARADMIN 253-12.
2.  THE FOLLOWING UNIT AWARDS ARE AUTHORIZED AND ARE INCORPORATED IN REF A.
A.  PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION (PUC).  THE SECNAV APPROVED THE PUC FOR MEB-AFGHANISTAN FROM 29 MAY 2009 TO 12 APRIL 2010.  UNIT DIARY ENTRIES WILL NOT BE PROCESSED UNTIL THE APPROVED LIST OF PARTICIPATING UNITS IS RELEASED VIA FUTURE MARADMIN.

NOTE:  NATO HQ (SHAPE J-1) IS THE AWARDING AUTHORITY FOR THE NATO MEDAL.  WHEN MARINES MEET THE ELIGIBILITY FOR THE NATO MEDAL, COMMANDS ARE STILL REQUIRED TO REQUEST APPROVAL FROM SHAPE J-1 VIA THE OPERATIONAL CHAIN OF COMMAND, INCLUDING MARINE CORPS FORCES EUROPE (COMMANDER, U.S. MARINE CORPS FORCES, EUROPE UNIT 30401, APO AE, 09046).  IF APPROVED, SHAPE J-1 WOULD PROVIDE THE MEDALS AND CERTIFICATES FOR ELIGIBLE MARINES WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE RESPECTIVE OPERATION.  UPON RECEIPT, THE MEDAL AND CERTIFICATE IS PRESENTED TO THE MARINE, THE UD ENTRY IS REPORTED, AND A COPY OF THE CERTIFICATE IS SUBMITTED TO MMSB FOR INCLUSION INTO THE MARINES OMPF.
