GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. PER REF (A), THE COMMAND SPONSORED CORPORALS COURSE COURSEWARE MATERIAL IS DEVELOPED, MAINTAINED AND DISTRIBUTED BY THE PRESIDENT, MARINE CORPS UNIVERSITY. THE CONTENT FOR THIS COURSE WAS REVISED AND DISTRBUTED DURING 2007 IN ACCORDANCE WITH REF (B). SUBSEQUENTLY, THE COURSE HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REDESIGNED AND BUILDS UPON THE SUCCESS OF THE 2007 PROGRAM OF INSTRUCTION (POI). COURSEWARE MATERIAL RELEASED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF REF (B) ARE NO LONGER VALID OR ACCESSIBLE.
2. THE NEW COURSEWARE MATERIAL HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE OPERATING FORCES IDENTIFIED DURING THE INITIAL FRONT-END ANALYSIS CONDUCTED DURING 2003 AND 2004 AND LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE CURRENT POI. ADDITIONALLY, THE COURSE IS FOUNDED UPON THE MASTERY/NON-MASTERY METHODOLOGY, ELIMINATING THE STANDARD GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA) APPROACH. POI VALIDATION AT FOUR REGIONAL SITES DURING MARCH THROUGH MAY 2009 INDICATES THE METHODOLOGY IS LARGELY ACCEPTED BY STUDENTS AND STAFF ALIKE.
3. THE COURSE HAS EXPANDED TO A MINIMUM THREE-WEEK POI THAT INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING MODULES: ADMINISTRATION, TRAINING, COMMUNICATIONS, LEADERSHIP, PROFESSIONAL SKILLS, AND OPERATIONS. THE COURSE HAS NINE ASSOCIATED EVALUATIONS; STUDENTS MUST MASTER SEVEN OF THE NINE EVENTS TO SUCCESSFULLY GRADUATE THE COURSE. COMMANDERS WHO DESIRE TO ADD CONTENT TO THE COURSE MAY DO SO, BUT NOT AT THE SACRIFICE OF THE ESTABLISHED POI.
4. THE COURSE METHODOLOGY RELIES HEAVILY UPON MENTORING FROM ASSIGNED INSTRUCTORS; AS SUCH, UNITS THAT DESIRE TO EXECUTE THE POI SHOULD ALLOW A MINIMUM OF 30 DAYS TO REVIEW THE COURSEWARE BEFORE CONDUCTING A COURSE. INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOWNLOADING THE COURSE ARE FOUND IN PARAGRAPH 6.
5. MARINE CORPS UNIVERSITY IS IN THE PROCESS OF STANDING UP CORPORALS COURSE CADRES AT THE REGIONAL STAFF NONCOMMISISONED OFFICER ACADEMIES (SNCOA). CURRENTLY, CORPORALS COURSES ARE INSTRUCTED AT THE SNCO ACADEMIES LOCATED AT MCB, QUANTICO; MCB, CAMP LEJEUNE; MCAGTFTC, TWENTYNINE PALMS; AND MCB, HAWAII. UNITS SHOULD CONTACT THEIR LOCAL SNCOA TO DETERMINE IF A COURSE IS BEING CONDUCTED; THEREFORE ELIMINATING REDUNDANT, TIME-CONSUMING COURSES.
