Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Moqor
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force with flares to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagements successful.

Shahidan
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted a show of presence and released precision-guided munitions over an enemy target to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs called the engagements successful.

Tani
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and released precision-guided munitions against enemy targets to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs called the engagements successful

Chahar Bagh
Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots, Air Force A-10 pilots and Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The F/A-18C pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity. The A-10 pilots conducted multiple strafing runs over enemy targets and shows of force to deter enemy activity while the F-16C pilots conducted a show of force with flares over an enemy position. Ground controllers called the engagements successful.

Tirgari
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted a show of presence and released multiple precision-guided munitions over an enemy target to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful.

Balocan
F/A-18C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted show of force with flares which JTACs deemed successful.

Qal-E-Naw
F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted a show of force over an enemy target to deter enemy activity, JTACs and ground controllers called the engagements successful

Lashkar Gah
F/A-18C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs declared the engagement successful.


Airlift Action

Badghis Province
Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 69,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Helmand Province
C-17 aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 208,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Oruzgan Province
A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop missions in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 35,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Paktika Province
A C-17 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 70,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
