Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Konduz
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews and F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted shows of force with flares and the aircrews conducted a show of force over enemy positions to deter enemy activity. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagements successful.

Surkhabad
Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force with flares which ground controllers called successful.

Chahar Bagh
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews released precision-guided munitions against an enemy position to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs called the engagement successful.

Balocan
Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and released missiles and precision-guided munitions over enemy targets to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers called the engagements successful.

Abchakan
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted a show of presence and shows of force with flares over enemy targets to deter enemy activity. JTACs declared the engagements successful.

Shurakian
