Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Kandahar
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and on-scene joint terminal attack controllers called the engagement successful.

Abchakan
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots and F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews performed a show of presence, a show of force and a strafing run against enemy targets to deter enemy activity. The pilots conducted a show of force and multiple strafing runs against an enemy position to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs declared the engagements successful.

Asmar
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs called the engagement successful.

Tirgari
F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers called the engagement successful.

Sangin

F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force which ground controllers declared successful.

Tarin Kowt
A B-1B aircrew and Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrew and pilots released multiple precision-guided munitions over several enemy targets to deter enemy activity. JTACs declared the engagements successful.

An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 44,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Helmand Province
Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews and a C-130 aircrew flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 264,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
