Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Asmar
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots and F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted a show of presence against an enemy position to deter enemy activity. The aircrews released precision-guided munitions against an enemy target to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and on-scene joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagements successful.

Asadabad
F-16C pilots and F-15E aircrews, provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots and aircrews conducted shows of force with flares to deter enemy activity. Ground controlled and JTACs called the engagements successful.

Samawah
Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force which ground controllers called successful.

Bagram
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a strafing run against several enemy position to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs declared the engagements successful.

Mushan
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity. JTACs called the engagement successful.

Qal-E-Naw

An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 44,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Dai Kundi Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 37,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Helmand Province
Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 176,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
