MCB QUANTICO, Va. -- Sgt. Maj. of the Marine Corps Troy E. Black sponsored the 2022 Warfighter Development Summit for mental and physical health, recruiting and retention, and transition readiness at Warner Hall at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, April 26-29.
The purpose of the Warfighter Development Summit is to gather feedback through shared experiences, collect data, and to develop a deep understanding of the current issues affecting Marine. Recommendations and solutions provided by Marines in attendance will assist the Marine Corps in providing resources to help Marines and their commands sustain a capable and ready force.
Specific topics were chosen by the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps for discussion during the summit due to their significant impact on the lives of Marines and their families.

“Those who wear the uniform, that is the United States strategic advantage over our adversaries,” said Sgt. Maj. of the Marine Corps Troy E. Black. “Everybody’s got a plane, a missile, a computer, but how we invest, train, and educate our service members, our Marines in particular, that’s our strategic warfighting advantage over any adversary.”
Approximately 20 enlisted Marines from four force-level commands, I Marine Expeditionary Force, II Marine Expeditionary Force, III Marine Expeditionary Force, and the Marine Corps Reserve, were in attendance of the summit. Marines were able to share their knowledge and the data they gathered to present to Sgt. Maj. Black. Over the next few days, Marines will work together to develop and finalize their executive summaries to provide the Marine Corps with recommendations and solutions to the Marine Corps.
“Change is continuous in the Marine Corps,” said Sgt. Maj. Black. “It doesn’t matter what domain, what emerging MOS, what technology that you’re in. The Marine Corps has a very specific mission in our Department of Defense. It is to be the most ready when the nation is least ready.”
