Sergeant Maj. Ronald Green relinquished his post as I Marine Expeditionary Force sergeant major to Sgt. Maj. Bradley Kasal during a relief and appointment ceremony aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Feb. 4.

As Green closes the chapter on his time with I MEF and prepares to assume his next post as the 18th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Kasal begins to write his own.

“I MEF has a fantastic reputation and Sergeant Major Green has done a great job of keeping the Marines trained and ready,” said Kasal. “I’m excited to have this opportunity.”

Kasal plans to continue the focus of training and combat readiness that Green instilled in the Marines and Sailors of I MEF.

“We are going to take care of our Marines and be ready for any mission that is assigned to us,” Kasal said. “We will continue to focus on preparing Marines.”

Green took solace in knowing that the unit will be taken care of as he takes on new challenges.

“I feel confident in knowing that I left I MEF smartly and in good hands,” Green said.

“We are Americans. We take care of our own. That’s what we do. It’s tough to relinquish command,” Green said. “It’s a great honor and responsibility. I’ve given a lot to this unit and this unit has given a lot back to me and my family.”

Upon assuming his post as I MEF sergeant major, Kasal thanked all those in attendance and addressed his new command.

“I look forward to working with all of you,” Kasal said, followed by assurance from Lt. Gen. David H. Berger, the I MEF commanding general, that the Commandant of the Marine Corps had picked the right Marine to lead and build upon what Green has achieved.
