Press Release #14-033 UPDATE #21: Camp Pendleton fire update

The School of Infantry-West (52 Area) evacuation order has been lifted. All personnel can return via the I-5 and Basilone Rd. gate to the 52 Area.

The San Mateo Fire (Combat Fire) that was reported at 11:24 a.m. Friday has burned 1,000 acres and is currently listed as 25% contained. The Las Pulgas fire first reported at 3:15 p.m. Thursday has burned 15,000 acres and is listed at 40% containment.  The Tomahawk fire that started Wednesday on Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook is currently listed at 6,500 acres burned and 75% containment.

Evacuation orders for Camp San Mateo (62 Area), Camp Las Pulgas (43 Area), Camp Las Flores (41 Area), Camp Margarita (33 Area), Marine Air Support Squadron 3 (32 Area) and Camp Vado Del Rio (25 Area) remain in effect.

Road Closures:

The Las Pulgas gate and Las Pulgas Road remain closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles.

The Christianitos Gate is closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles.

The San Mateo Road between Camp San Mateo and Camp San Onofre is closed.

The Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook gate and Ammunition Road remain closed.

Basilone Road from Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton to Camp Horno remains closed.

Stuart Mesa Road north of Assault Craft Unit-5 to the Las Pulgas Gate remains closed.

The causes of the fires are under investigation.
