MCAS Miramar Fire Department responds to fire near East Miramar

Firefighting units from the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Fire Department responded to a fire in the vicinity of West Sycamore Canyon, Calif., at approximately 8:23 a.m., May 17.

Units from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department were the first to arrive on the scene at 8:06 a.m. in the vicinity of West Sycamore Canyon, which is located northwest of Santee Lakes and on the eastern edge of East Miramar.

The Miramar Fire Department committed three brush trucks and one water tender to combat the fire and is working in a unified command with Heartland Fire & Rescue and CALFIRE.

The fire was estimated to be approximately 30 acres. The fire has been stopped and is currently at 30% containment. Fire units remain on the scene to conduct mop-up operations.
