Air Force Junior ROTC cadets from five Southern California high schools gathered at March Air Reserve Base April 10 to participate in the annual pass and review.

Approximately 150 cadets from West Covina, Apple Valley, Yucaipa, Arlington and Rancho Verde High Schools assembled in front of the base operations building to begin the ceremony, which began with the arrival of the reviewing party led by 452nd Air Mobility Wing vice commander Col. Mary Aldrian.

"It's wonderful to see so many young people participating in today's pass in review ceremony," said Colonel Aldrian. "Whatever you choose to do in life, the Junior ROTC program can help to build a foundation for a future career as a member of America's military. Continue to participate in programs such as this and you will find it to be a very rewarding experience."

Historically, the pass in review began during the reign of King William III of England. Drummers would march through the streets of villages where his men were housed. This was a signal for them to return to garrison and prepare to depart. Today, the ceremony is held to exhibit a level of excellence and demonstrate the team work needed for future success.

"This is a good opportunity for these kids to come out and demonstrate they can pull together as a team and make an event like this happen," said retired Lt. Col. Emmanuel C. Valencia, March Pass in Review organizer. "This event was a big success and we look forward to coming back next year and doing it all over again."

After the ceremony, the cadets were treated to pizza and sodas.
