Furlough to affect Hill AFB service hours

28 Jun 2013 | George Jozens

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has concluded budget cuts will require most of the department's civilian employees to be furloughed beginning in July. Hagel has directed that most Defense Department employees will be required to take 11 furlough days beginning July 8, one per week, through the end of the fiscal year, Sept. 30.

A furlough places an employee in a temporary non-duty, non-pay status because of lack of work, reduction or lack of funds, or other non-disciplinary reason.

Team Hill leadership has decided to furlough the majority of Hill's employees on Fridays to lessen mission and energy impacts. As a result of the furlough, the 75th Air Base Wing support services will change.

Most of the base will be furloughing their civilians on Fridays during the furlough period, with some exceptions. The accompanying schedules summarize mission support impacts and changes could occur as necessary.

Some 419th Fighter Wing offices will remain open on Fridays, but many base services will be closed, including the following:

· West and Southwest Gates (pending union impact and implementation bargaining)
· Civilian pay, non-appropriated funds financial analysis and quality control, civilian in- & out-processing
