I Am Second movement visits the Combat Center

Van Nguyen was an avid motorcycle cross rider as a teenager. Years after his retirement from the Marine Corps, he and his friends make an annual trip called a “man-cation” to engage in off-road riding.

‘Phantoms’ welcome new commanding officer

The winds of change could be felt sweeping across a formation of Marines with Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 3. Before their eyes, they witnessed the induction of a new commanding officer and the commencement of a new location to continue their operations, but their mission of maintaining a combat-ready, expeditionary aviation force capable of swift deployment to the Marine Air Ground Task Force fleet, remained the same.

Memorial honors life, career of Col. M.J. ‘Mac’ Dube

The church was still as those who filled its pews prayed. The memories and thoughts that were shared through the words of friends and family members soothed the feeling of loss, which weighed heavily in the room. The congregation gathered to mourn the loss of an honorable Marine and beloved member of the Twentynine Palms community. Retired Marine Col. M.J. ‘Mac’ Dube, 80, passed away, April 29.

‘Darkside’ cases colors until next call of duty

As the adjutant’s command echoed throughout Lance Cpl. Torrey L. Gray Field, hundreds of spectators silently watched as the Marines and sailors of 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, 7th Marine Regiment, conducted their final pass and review. The battalion, ordered deactivated by the Marine Corps, drew a crowd of distinguished guests and veterans of the unit, which holds a reputation as the most deployed Marine Corps battalion this past decade. They and the Marines and sailors before them knew this wasn’t the battalion’s first deactivation, nor would it be the last.

Combat Center Marines take part in Memorial Day ceremony

The Joshua Tree Memorial Park and Mortuary’s gravesites were speckled with American flags. A crowd of veterans, active-duty service members and local residents of the community filled rows of chairs as the color guard marched into place and the national anthem began to play during a Memorial Day service.

Combat Center gyms offer indoor alternatives to outdoor training

Desert sun rays beam on service members every day aboard the Combat Center. As the seasons transition into the summer, Marines and sailors will continue to train and exercise. The 101 Critical Days of Summer campaign began, May 26, 2014, to raise awareness on safety for recreational activities and workouts in the rising temperatures of the season. Whether in the field or on the main side of the base, it is important to consider the weather when planning activities.

‘Darkside’ Marines support community

Every Marine a rifleman. These words have no truer meaning to the Marines of 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, 7th Marine Regiment, which is currently known as the most deployed Marine Corps battalion throughout Operation Enduring Freedom. These Marines underwent a different mission in the early hours on May 25, 2014, one that afforded them the opportunity to serve the community in between their periods of serving the nation.
