Camp Pendleton, CA - Sgt. Maj. Ronald L. Green, the I Marine Expeditionary Force’s sergeant major, greets Medal of Honor recipient Cpl. William “Kyle” Carpenter aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., June 23, 2014. During the visit, Carpenter visited Wounded Warrior Battalion West and spoke to service members at the base theater. Carpenter earned the nation’s highest military award for his actions in Helmand province, Afghanistan, in November 2010. He saved another Marine’s life by shielding him from a grenade blast during an enemy attack.
