Marines from Headquarters Company and C Company, Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, conducted a Corporal’s Course here during the last weeks of the MEU’s six-month deployment.

The course used the same curriculum they use at the Camp Pendleton Corporal’s Course. Participants with the Camp Pendleton, Calif.-based 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), took part in periods of instruction that included lectures in the ship’s library on topics such as Marine Corps history and customs and courtesies. They also practiced close-order drill and sword manual in the ship’s hangar bay and flight deck, said Cpl. Joseph Casillas, class commander.

“The only difference is that the course is conducted on the ship instead of on a parade deck in Camp Horno,” said Casillas. “Other than that the same focus is put on the sword manual, classes, uniform inspections and drills.”
