Howitzers provide long range support

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif.
Marines with Kilo Battery conducted live-fire drills to maintain operational readiness during a field exercise here June 15.
The battery, part of Battalion Landing Team 3/1, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, unloaded its M777A2 howitzers, aka triple sevens, over California’s rolling hills.
“When the infantrymen need long range support they call on us,” said Sgt. Tashan D. Williams, 22, gun two section chief.
After the section receives fire missions a combined effort of six Marines create a quick reaction and a hasty launch of each 155mm round.
“Our goal, is to provide direct support for the MEU and battalion in any situation,” said Staff Sgt. Christopher J. Cannon, 33, the platoon sergeant with 1st plt., Kilo Battery.
