26th Marine Expeditionary Unit to support Pakistan flood relief efforts

Marines and sailors from 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit will support relief efforts to help the Pakistani government alleviate the suffering of its citizens following flooding that began in mid-July.

The Marines intend to support the relief efforts primarily through aviation and logistics assets. In coordination with the government of Pakistan, other U.S. government agencies, and non-governmental organizations, 26th MEU’s capabilities will allow the Marines to provide food, water, transportation, and other relief support to those seeking aid.

“This is an opportunity for 26th MEU Marines and sailors to help a key partner nation,” said Col. Mark J. Desens, commanding officer of 26th MEU. “We have a versatile and flexible force that we will use to alleviate suffering of the Pakistani citizens affected by this disaster.”
