Legal assistance has been provided to members of the armed forces since 1943. Congress officially recognized the military services' legal assistance programs in 1984 by enacting 10 U.S.C. section 1044, which authorizes provision of legal assistance "subject to the availability of legal staff resources." Marine Corps personnel historically have been provided assistance with their personal legal affairs. Legal assistance is now perceived as one of the benefits of military service and a major quality of life program that enhances duty performance and retention of personnel.
The Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command (MAGTFTC) Legal Assistance Office is located in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Building 1514. The telephone number is (760) 830-6111. All active duty and retired military personnel and their family members may seek the advice of Legal Assistance.
The Legal Assistance Office operates by appointment on a "first come - first served" basis. Appointments are made at 30-minute intervals. Only a limited number of appointments are available each week. Follow-up appointments may be scheduled as necessary. Notary public service is available Wednesday 1300-1500 and Friday 0800-1030.
