Colonel Peter J. DeVine

Commanding Officer, Marine Air Control Group 28, MCAS Cherry Point

Colonel Peter J. DeVineColonel Peter J. DeVine enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1978 and served for ten years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1995, he was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program and attended Virginia Tech, receiving a commission upon graduation in 1988.

Following graduation from the Basic School in 1989, Colonel DeVine attended the Air Support Control Officers Course at the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center, 29 Palms, CA and was subsequently assigned to Marine Air Support Squadron 1 (MASS-1), Marine Air Control Group 28 (MACG-28), MCAS Cherry Point, NC. While assigned to MASS-1, he deployed to Southwest Asia during Operation DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM.

In 1991, Colonel DeVine was assigned as a DASC instructor at the Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School. He subsequently served as aide-de-camp to the Commanding General, MCAGCC, and then as the Range Management Officer. In June 1995, he attended the Amphibious Warfare School at Quantico, VA and upon graduation returned to MASS-1 to serve as DASC Officer-in-Charge, Squadron Operations Officer, and Weapons and Tactics Instructor.

From August 1998 to June 2001, Colonel DeVine was assigned to Marine Corps Systems Command as DASC Acquisition Project Officer and then as Assistant Program Manager for Aviation Command and Control. He next attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Quantico, VA where he received a Master of Military Studies degree from Marine Corps University. In July 2002, he reported to MACG-18 on Okinawa, Japan where he served consecutively as Assistant Group Operations Officer and Executive Officer of MASS-2.

In July 2004, Colonel DeVine was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and assigned to joint duty with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency at Fort Belvoir, VA, serving as Chief of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START)/Nuclear Branch. After a second tour with Systems Command, he returned to Cherry Point and served as Executive Officer of MACG-28 and deployed to Iraq in July 2007. Selected for squadron command, Colonel DeVine served as Commanding Officer, MASS-1 from March 2008 until October 2009, which included a seven-month deployment to Iraq.

During 2009-10, Colonel DeVine attended the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI where he was awarded a Masters of National Security and Strategic Studies. In December 2010, he reported to 2d MAW and assumed command of MACG-28.

Colonel DeVines formal military schools include The Basic School, Amphibious Warfare School, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, Advanced Program Management Course, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the College of Naval Warfare.

His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two Gold Stars, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
