Major Enrique A. Azenon

Executive Officer, Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461, MCAS New River

Major Enrique A. AzenonMajor Azenon was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in May of 1996. After completing the Basic Officers Course in Quantico, Virginia he reported to NAS Pensacola for Naval Flight Training and was designated a Naval Aviator in March 1999.

1stLt Azenon was ordered to HMM (T)-164 at MCAS Camp Pendleton, California, for training at the CH-46E FRS. In July 1999 he reported to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (HMM)-162 at MCAS New River, NC, participating in Combined Arms Exercise (CAX) 9 and took part in humanitarian relief efforts after Hurricane Floyd made landfall in Eastern North Carolina later that year. In July of 2000, Captain Azenon deployed to the Mediterranean AOR as part of an LF6F-01 deployment with the 22nd MEU (SOC). Following the deployment, Captain Azenon participated in various CONUS exercises and served as the Squadron Adjutant and Legal Officer.

After completing CAX 9/10, he attended the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (WTI 2-02) in October of 2002 and in January 2003 deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Squadron WTI and Operations Administration Officer. Upon returning from OIF, Captain Azenon served as Flight line OIC and Quality Assurance Officer through April 2004.

Capt Azenon was selected for the Special Education Program and attended the Graduate School of Business and Public Policy at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. In June 2006, he was assigned to the Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments (MMEA) Branch as part of the Distribution and Policy Section (MMEA-1) where he worked on the USMC AVPLAN and 202K staffing initiatives and later served as the Enlisted Staffing Goal Model (ESGM) Manager and Head of Data and Systems Support (MMEA-5) section.

While at MMEA, Major Azenon was promoted to his present rank and selected to transition to the CH-53E Super Stallion airframe. At the completion of his tour at MMEA, Major Azenon reported to MAG-29, MCAS New River and underwent training at HMH (T)-302. He received orders to HMH-464 in November of 2009 and served as the Director of Safety and Standardization prior to assuming the duties of Squadron Operations Officer in January 2010. In December of 2010 he was assigned to serve as the Maintenance Officer for the Horn of Africa (HOA) detachment supporting OEF as part of CJTF-HOA in Djibouti, Africa.

Major Azenon reported back to MAG-29 in August 2011 where he was assigned as the Future Operations Officer as well as the ACE planner and MAG action officer for the 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade amphibious exercise, BOLD ALLIGATOR 2012. He detached from MAG-29 in April 2012 and reported to HMH-461 to assume the duties of Executive Officer.

Major Azenon holds a Masters degree of Science in Management from NPS. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Flight Strike Numeral 6, the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
