CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, Ar Ramadi, Iraq
Iraqi Army soldiers from 1st and 2nd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, attached to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (28th Infantry Division) discovered seven weapons caches and detained two insurgents during counterinsurgency operations.
These operations come on the heels of Operation Spider Web, in which Iraqi Army soldiers cleared a key portion of Jazerra and established a permanent overwatch, in the form of a combat outpost and tactical strong points to provide security for the citizens of that area.
The weapons caches seized consisted of: multiple mortars and artillery rounds ranging from 105 mm-155 mm, mortar fuses, rockets, rocket-propelled grenades, several kegs of gun powder, a Draganov sniper rifle, small-arms rifles and ammunition, hand grenades, anti-personal mines, blasting caps and bomb-making equipment.
“The morale of the Iraqi soldiers of this brigade is very high. The work that the 1st and 2nd Battalions, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, are doing shows their ability in executing their duties and their abilities in maintaining security. The Iraqi Army is earning the trust of the Iraqi citizens by protecting them from the insurgents and their terrorist operations,” said 3rd Brigade Commander Gen. Abdul Amir.
More than 60 high explosive projectiles and 30 RPGs were destroyed by the 1st Iraqi Army Bomb Disposal Team and TF Panther Explosive Ordnance Disposal.
There were no damages to equipment and no injuries to local Iraqi citizens or Iraqi Army soldiers during the counter insurgent operations.
