Commanding Officer, Commanding Officer, Combat Logistics Battalion 2

LtCol. Mull, Denise M. 

Lieutenant Colonel Mull (nee Garcia) was raised in Nogales, Arizona. She graduated from The University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems and was commissioned in 1993.

Upon completion of The Basic School and the Landing Force Logistics Officers Course in July 1995, Second Lieutenant Garcia was assigned to 2d Marine Aircraft Wing as the Logistics Officer and Maintenance Management Officer with Marine Air Control Squadron 2, Marine Air Control Group 28 in Beaufort, SC. During this period she participated in Operation Laser Strike in South America and Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 1-95 and 1-97.

In May 1998, Captain Garcia was transferred to the School of Infantry East where she served as Executive Officer, Company G, Marine Combat Training Battalion. In July 1999, Captain Garcia was reassigned to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC to serve as Aide de Camp for the Commanding General, Marine Corps Base.

In July 2000, Captain Garcia was transferred to 2d Force Service Support Group where she served as Company Commander for Headquarters and Service Company, 2d Transportation Support Battalion and as the Operations Officer for MEU Service Support Group 24, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. During this period she participated in operation Dynamic Response in Kosovo, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In January 2003, Captain Garcia reported to the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab (MCWL) in Quantico, VA where she served as a Project Officer for the Sea Viking Division and Branch Head for the Combat Service Support Branch for the Technology Division. During this period, Major Garcia participated in the MCWL's Stability and Support Operations (SASO) pre-deployment training initiative in support of all battalions deploying to Iraq and served as the project lead for logistics and counter-improvised explosive device (IED) technologies.

Major Garcia reported to 2d Marine Logistics Group (MLG) in Camp Lejeune, NC in 2006 where she served as the Operations Officer and the Executive Officer for Combat Logistics Battalion 6, Combat Logistics Regiment 2. During this period she deployed to Al Anbar Province, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 06-08 and OIF 07-09. Upon returning from Iraq in 2008, Major Garcia was reassigned to the 2d MLG G-3 to serve as the Current Operations Officer, Plans Officer and Deputy G-3.

In July 2009, Lieutenant Colonel Garcia transferred to United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) in Tampa, FL and was assigned as the Branch Chief, Logistics Readiness Center, J4 Operations Division. During this assignment, Lieutenant Colonel Mull was the lead Afghanistan Planner and also served as the Joint Logistics Operations Center (JLOC) Chief for the J4 Operations Division during numerous USCENTCOM Forward Headquarters deployments to Qatar.

Lieutenant Colonel Mull is a graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School (non-resident) and Marine Corps Command and Staff College (non-resident). Her personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars, Joint Service Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Lieutenant Colonel Mull is married to Colonel Henry E. Mull, Jr.

Battalion Sergeant Major, Battalion Sergeant Major, Combat Logistics Battalion 2

Sergeant Major Murphy was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1967. She graduated from Dollarway High School, Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1985. Sergeant Major Murphy has one daughter, Korania. In May of 1988, she enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. She went to boot camp at Parris Island, SC and was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class.

Sergeant Major Murphy was transferred to Fort Eustis, Virginia where she was assigned to the U. S. Army Transportation School. After completion of school, she was assigned to Beach and Port Terminal Operations Company, 3rd Landing Support Battalion, Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan. During her tour in Okinawa, she was deployed to Camp Fuji, Japan with Combat Service Support Detachment Fourteen for three months. Sergeant Major Murphy was promoted to Lance Corporal in April 1989.

In November 1989, Sergeant Major Murphy transferred to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, CA. In December of 1991, she reenlisted for four years. After her reenlistment, Sergeant Major Murphy was promoted to Corporal in January of 1992. She remained in El Toro until May 1993 and then transferred to Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan for one year. Upon completion of her unaccompanied tour, she was transferred to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC, where she remained for 2 years. While stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, she was promoted to Sergeant in November of 1994.

In October of 1996, Sergeant Major Murphy reported to Drill Instructor school at Parris Island, South Carolina. Sergeant Major Murphy graduated from Drill Instructor School, Parris Island, SC in December of 1996 and was assigned to "O" Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion. She completed six cycles, 3 as a Drill Instructor, 2 as a Senior Drill Instructor and 1 as a Series Gunnery Sergeant. In April of 1998, Sergeant Major Murphy was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In December 1999, after a successful tour, Sergeant Major Murphy was transferred to Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia where she was assigned as the Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the Transportation Management Office. In April 2001, Sergeant Major Murphy received an accelerated promotion to Gunnery Sergeant. In September 2001, Sergeant Major Murphy requested orders to Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL to train Naval Officer Candidates. After completing Drill Instructor School for the second time, Sergeant Major Murphy reported to the Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL, where she served as a drill instructor for three years. After the completion of her first class, Sergeant Major Murphy was awarded a Congressional Record from the 107th Congress, second session, honoring her as the First Female Drill Instructor at Naval Officer Candidate School. Sergeant Major Murphy was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant in January 2005 and reported to Inspector & Instructor Staff Indianapolis, Indiana immediately as the First Sergeant of Detachment Communications, Communication Company, Headquarters Battalion, 4th Marine Division and Detachment Two, Electronics Maintenance, 4th Marine Logistics Group. In June of 2007, Sergeant Major Murphy reported to First Radio Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton as the First Sergeant of Headquarters and Service Company. In February 2008, Sergeant Major Murphy deployed in support of Iraqi Freedom. First Sergeant Murphy was promoted to her current rank of Sergeant Major in January 2009 and immediately reported to the Marine Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC for duty as the 4th Recruit Training Battalion Sergeant Major. In April of 2011 Sergeant Major Murphy completed her third tour on drill instructor duty and reported to the Combat Logistics Battalion Two, where she currently serves as the battalion Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Murphy has obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Degree from the University of West Florida, in Pensacola, FL. She also has a Master of Business Administration degree from the American Military University.

Sergeant Major Murphy’s' awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd Award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd Award)
