Col Henderson is a graduate of Wichita State University and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant after OCS in 1986. After Logistics Officers Course, he was assigned as the S-4A for 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. Following a UDP deployment with 3/5, he was assigned as the S-4A for BLT 3/1 and completed a deployment with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (SOC).

In July 1990, he was transferred to 1st Landing Support Battalion where he commanded two landing support companies and a CSSD, and filled the billet as S-3 Operations Officer.  During this period, he was also the XO for the Landing Support Detachment, 7th MEB and S-3A for CSSD-10 during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

He completed Amphibious Warfare School and in June 1994, he was assigned as the Logistics Operations Officer for Commander Naval Forces Korea. In July 1995, he returned to CONUS and was assigned as the S-3 Officer for Marine Wing Support Squadron-272.  After promotion to Major, he was transferred to 24th MEU (SOC) as the S-4 Officer.

In 1999, he was assigned as the Logistics Operations Officer, Joint Advanced Warfare Program, under the Joint Staff J-7. In 2002, he transferred to Camp Lejeune and was assigned as the G-4 Operations Officer, 2d Marine Division and deployed as the J-4 Operations Officer, JTF Horn of Africa.

In 2003, he was assigned to 2d Force Service Support Group where he assumed command of Combat Service Support Detachment 26 to support 6th Marines during CAX exercises at 29 Palms.  In 2004, CSSD-26 transitioned to MSSG-26 and was assigned to the 26th MEU. In 2005, he deployed as 2d Marine Logistics Group’s Liaison Officer to 2d Marine Division in Iraq. From 2007-2010, he was assigned as G-4 Officer for Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and he is currently the Facilities Engineer Officer for Marine Corps Base Camp Butler Japan.

He attended the Naval Command and Staff College and the Air War College where he earned Master of Arts degrees in National Security Studies.

His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

He is married to Col Krista J. Crosetto, USMC.

 

Sergeant Major Samuel R. Schmidt was born in Rapid City, South Dakota in 1964, and he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 1 October 1982. After graduation he received orders to 29 Palms, Ca where he performed duties as a loader on the M60 Tank before becoming an Air Support Operations Operator. He was subsequently transferred to Okinawa for his first FMF tour.

Arriving in Okinawa in 1983, Lance Corporal Schmidt performed as an operator within the Direct Air Support Center (DASC) and also with the Air Support Radar Team (ASRT). He served in Okinawa, the Philippines, and Korea during this tour.

Transferring to 29 Palms, Ca in 1984 Corporal Schmidt served with Range Control, Bearmat as a Crew Chief. After being meritoriously promoted to Sergeant he received orders to MCRD, San Diego where he served as a Drill Instructor with C Co until August 1987 when he was transferred to 4th AAVBn in Jacksonville. He was attached to 4th AAVs until March 1990 when he transferred back to Okinawa.

Staff Sergeant Schmidt served once again with the DASC, and he also was qualified as a forward observer during this tour. He deployed in support of MAGTF 4-90, and also with the 31st MEU.

Gunnery Sergeant Schmidt transferred to the Tactical Air Command Center at MCAS El Toro in January 1994. He served there until May 1995 when he became an instructor/advisor at the SNCOA for the Advanced Course and eventually the SNCOIC of the Sergeant’s Course.

After his promotion to First Sergeant in 1997 First Sergeant Schmidt was assigned to 8th Engineer Support Battalion where he served with most of the companies within the Battalion.

Promoted to Sergeant Major in 2002 he was transferred to Okinawa once again, and he became the Sergeant Major for 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion. As a Sergeant Major he has also served with MCB Japan at Camp Foster, was the first Sergeant Major for the Foreign Military Training Unit (MARSOC), currently known as the Marine Special Operations Regiment, deployed to Afghanistan as the Sergeant Major for Regional Corps Advisory Command – Central, and served as the Sergeant Major for the 4th Marine Regiment and Camp Schwab. Sergeant Major Schmidt currently serves as the Sergeant Major for Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3d Marine Logistics Group.

Sergeant Major Schmidt is authorized to wear the Navy/Marine Corps Parachutist Insignia.
