SERGEANT MAJOR MARK A. ARVIZU

 Sergeant Major Arvizu enlisted in the Marine Corps on 9 June 1986 and attended Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego, California.  Upon completion, he received training at Naval Air Station Millington where he was designated as a  6152, CH-46 Aircraft Structural Mechanic.  On completion of training, Private First Class Arvizu reported to Marine Corps Air Station New River and was attached to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (HMM) 266.  During this assignment he participated in various field training exercises and deployments.

 In May 1992, Sergeant Arvizu reported to Naval Air Station Belle Chasse and was attached to Marine Air Group (MAG) 46, Detachment C, 4th Marine Air Wing.  During this period he served as the assistant NCOIC of the Airframes Division and was also designated as an Arial Gunner/Observer on UH-1N.

 In October 1994, Sergeant Arvizu received orders to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 164, MCAS Tustin, where he served as the Airframes Division NCOIC, and Arial Gunner/Observer on the CH-46.  In June 1995 he deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).

 In June 1997, Staff Sergeant Arvizu received orders to Drill Instructor School, MCRD San Diego, and upon graduation was assigned to Company D.  He served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Series Gunnery Sergeant.  In 1999 he was reassigned to Instructional Training Company (ITC), and served as a Martial Arts Instructor Trainer.

 In May 2000, Staff Sergeant Arvizu reported to MCAS Miramar, and was attached to HMM-161, where he served as SNCOIC Airframes Division.  In August 2000 he deployed with the 13th MEU and participated in Operation Determined Response, recovery of the USS Cole.  He also assisted in Humanitarian operations in East Timor.  In January 2003 Gunnery Sergeant Arvizu deployed with the 15th MEU for a 7-month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I.  In February 2004, he deployed with 1st Marine Expeditionary Force for an 8-month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II.

 In January 2005, First Sergeant Arvizu transferred to MCRD San Diego where he served as First Sergeant Company H, 2d Recruit Training Battalion.  On 21 Aug 2006, First Sergeant Arvizu was reassigned to Recruit Training Regiment and assumed the duties as First Sergeant Drill Instructor School MCRD San Diego.

In June of 2008, First Sergeant Arvizu was transferred to Okinawa Japan and reported to 3d MLG, CLR-35, 3d Maintenance Battalion and was the Company First Sergeant for Electronics Maintenance Company.

Promoted to his current rank on 21 November 2008, he reported to 3d Battalion 12th Marines to assume the duties as the Battalion Sergeant Major.  In March of 2010 he was reassigned to 3d Reconnaissance Battalion.
