Lieutenant Colonel Travis L. Homiak was born in Vineland, NJ and was commissioned in 1994 following his graduation from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington, Virginia. He attended The Basic School (TBS) and the Infantry Officers Course (IOC) from June 1994 to May 1995. Upon graduation from IOC, 2ndLt Homiak reported to the Military Intelligence Officers Basic Course (MIOBC) at Fort Huachuca, AZ for training as an intelligence officer. After completing MIOBC, he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines at Camp Pendleton, CA in October 1995.
During his time at 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 2ndLt Homiak served as the battalion’s scout sniper platoon. From December 1996 until May 1997 1stLt Homiak deployed with the Battalion, part of the 11th MEU(SOC), to the Western Pacific in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Upon returning from his first deployment, 1stLt Homiak was assigned to 1st Reconnaissance Company as the commander of an amphibious reconnaissance platoon. Attached to 2nd Battalion 1st Marines, Capt Homiak deployed again to the Western Pacific as part of the 13th MEU(SOC) from December 1998 until June 1999. In July 1999, Capt Homiak reported to the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Unit at the VMI as one of two Marine Officer Instructors. During his time at VMI, Capt Homiak also served as the course coordinator for amphibious warfare course, overseeing course standardization for the Chief of Naval Education and Training (CNET). In July of 2002, Capt Homiak reported to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Lejeune, NC. Assigned as a company commander, Capt Homiak led both Bravo and Charlie companies in support of numerous regimental and division-level exercises. In April of 2003, Capt Homiak deployed to Yemen as the detachment officer-in-charge of a combined US/UK, mobile training team that screened, formed, and trained the nucleus of Yemen’s first, counter-terrorism unit in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM
Upon returning from Yemen in October of 2003, Capt Homiak was reassigned within 2d Recon Battalion as the assistant operations officer. Serving in this position for six months, Capt Homiak then assumed duties as the battalion operations officer in preparation for deployment to Iraq. In June 2004, he was promoted to Major. Major Homiak deployed with the battalion to Iraq from September 2004 to April 2005. During his tour, Maj Homiak participated in Operation AL FAJR in Fallujah and the first Iraqi national elections.
After returning from Iraq, he reported in July 2005 to the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA, where he attended both Command and Staff College and the School of Advanced Warfighting.
In July 2007, Major Homiak reported to Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command serving within the G-3, first as the Plans Officer and then as the Future Operations Officer. Lieutenant Colonel Homiak transferred to Okinawa in June 2010 for duty within the 3d Marine Division. He assumed command of 3d Reconnaissance Battalion on 7 July 2010.
Lieutenant Colonel Homiak and his wife have been married 15 years and have two children. |
