1. I would like to take this opportunity to officially welcome you to the “Oldest and Proudest” Regiment within the United States Marine Corps… 4th Marines! Located on the beautiful island of Okinawa, 4th Marine Regiment is the only forward deployed Regiment in the Marine Corps.

2. 4th Marines was first activated in April of 1914, and has supported our Nation’s interest from peacekeeping in the Dominican Republic, to the protection of American life and property in Shanghai. The Regiment has participated in campaigns at Corregidor, Guadalcanal, Guam, Okinawa, Vietnam, and South West Asia, and has never failed to serve our nation honorably. We at 4th Marines are proud of our heritage, and feel it is our rightful place to be at the tip of the spear.

3. Besides being the only forward deployed Regiment, 4th Marines is also the only Marine Corps Regiment comprised entirely of Unit Deployment Program Infantry Battalions. We operate on a rotational cycle of Infantry Battalions from California, North Carolina, and Hawaii. Our Unit Deployment Program Battalions are vital to the Command, and are in fact the very heart and soul of the Regiment - they are the reason we are here.

4. I am sure your sponsor will inform you more as it pertains to your individual duties and responsibilities within the Regiment.
