Assistant Division Commander




Colonel Clements enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in May 1983 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant via the Officers Candidate Course in September 1985 after graduating from Kent State University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.

He was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron-272 where he served as a military police operations officer at Marine Corps Air Station New River. In 1989, he assumed command of Military Police Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, 3d Force Service Support Group, Okinawa Japan. He served as the Battalion Adjutant, S-4 Logistics Officer and S-2/3 Officer before attending the Military Police Officer Advanced Course, Fort McClellan, Alabama. After graduation, he was assigned as the Operations Officer for the U.S. Army Department of Basic Military Police Training in May 1992.

In 1993, he served as the Executive Officer for Marine Corps Detachment Fort McClellan and lead instructor for the U.S. Army Combating Terrorism on Military Installations Course. He transferred to Camp Lejeune in 1996 for duty as the Deputy Director, Human Services and also served on the Adjunct Faculty for the Headquarters Marine Corps, Domestic Violence Intervention Program.

In November 1997, he transferred to II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) G-3, Current Operations for duty as the MEF Provost Marshal/Force Protection Officer and Non-lethal Weapons and SOUTHCOM security operations action officer. He attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 1999 and was selected to participate in a one-year assignment with the HQMC Strategic Studies Group focused on the 2001 Quadrennial Defense Review. Upon graduation from Command and Staff College in 2001, he served as Chief of Force Protection, United States Strategic Command. In 2003, he was designated a Joint Qualified Officer following graduation from the Armed Forces Staff College, National Defense University.

Colonel Clements reported to Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Headquarters Marine Corps in July 2004 and assumed duties as Head, Performance Evaluation Section. In July 2005 he was assigned as the Executive Officer, Security Battalion, Marine Corps Base Quantico. From April 2007 to June 2008, he commanded Task Force National Capital Region (TF-NCR) through combat operations in Diyala and Al Anbar provinces. He assumed his duties as the Military Assistant/ Marine Aide for The Assistant Secretary of the Navy (M&RA) in June 2008. Colonel Clements assumed command of Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division in June of 2009.

Colonel Clements also holds a Master's of Public Administration Degree from Jacksonville State University and is a graduate of the 178th Session of the FBI National Academy. His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
